Buy Low/ Sell High July 2nd (Baker/Pelfrey)
Buy Low: Scott Baker
Key Stats:
Pitcher: | BABIP | K/BB | PTO% | qERA | ERA Dif | P/IP | FIP |
Hitter: | BABIP | P/PA | BB/SO | GB/FB | HR/FB
2008 | 0.293 | 4.330 | 29.5% | 3.87 | -0.296 | 15.78 | 4.23 |
2007 | 0.329 | 3.52 | 30.29% | 4.25 | 0.008 | 14.59 | 3.77 |
2006 | 0.355 | 3.88 | 25.95% | 4.27 | 2.104 | 17.30 | 4.98 |
Scott has been pretty consistent this year, giving up more than 3 ER only once. He’s about average in efficiency but he has great command and he’s close to elite level PTO%. His BABIP shows how this is not a fluke right now, so you can expect much of the same.

Sell High: Mike Pelfrey
Key Stats:
Pitcher: | BABIP | K/BB | PTO% | qERA | ERA Dif | P/IP | FIP |
Hitter: | BABIP | P/PA | BB/SO | GB/FB | HR/FB
2008 | 0.344 | 1.170 | 23.0% | 5.54 | -1.066 | 17.82 | 4.15 |
2007 | 0.338 | 1.15 | 23.98% | 5.54 | 0.031 | 17.68 | 4.69 |
2006 | 0.353 | 1.08 | 23.72% | 5.70 | -0.225 | 17.79 | 4.43 |
Mike has been very inconsistent right now but lately has been ok the last two starts. That’s the last thing you want on your team. Find someone who would fall for the BABIP of .344 and snicker silently when you look at his qERA and P/IP rates. Finally, cover your mouth to contain the laughter at the poor fool when he takes him on despite the command and domination rates.
